Gypsy Rose Blanchard Pregnancy: The Explanation of the Drama
September 4, 2024
The scandal surrounding ex-convict turned social media celebrity Gypsy Rose Blanchard is, not surprisingly, still brewing. Ever since her release from prison in December of 2023, there have been multiple news-worthy headlines regarding her return to a "normal" life. One of the more recent topics surrounding Blanchard is her pregnancy announcement in July.
This blog post focuses on the impact of the social media on this story, and how the internet has taken over the spread of this news, and provided the world with many different viewpoints on this topic. After being released from prison, Blanchard has acquired hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram, and has created a very prominent online presence for herself. The highly-rated Hulu series The Act, starring Joey King and Patricia Arquette, no doubt had an influence on Blanchard's return to infamy, after providing an inside look at her life before prison.
It became a public spectacle after Blanchard was released from prison, with people on social media taking opposing sides regarding her release. The presence that she immediately started on social media definitely gained her some hate, but also brought forth those who supported her return to a normal life. If this story had occurred two decades ago, there would not have been the same type of press on the story, considering a focal point of Blanchard's rediscovered fame relied on her interactions with with the public on social media.
Another prominent aspect of Blanchard's life outside of prison are her tumultuous relationships. While in prison, she married Ryan Anderson in July of 2022. All seemed well, with her firing back at online trolls that didn't support her relationship with Anderson. However, in April of 2024, Blanchard filed for divorce from Anderson and quickly announced her new relationship with her former fiance, Ken Urker. Not long after this new development did she announce her pregnancy with Urker's child.
"It was not planned at all," said Blanchard. "It was completely unexpected, but we are both very excited to take on this new journey of parenthood."
Since then, Blanchard has provided the public with many updates regarding the status of her pregnancy, including the fact that the baby is a girl and is expected to arrive in January 2025. There has also been speculation regarding the paternity of her baby. While Blanchard claims that the father is Urker, many people have taken to social media to speak about how they believe that Ken Anderson could have the potential to be the father.
"This is absolutely, 100% Ken's baby. There was never any question of paternity," said Blanchard.
There has also been a trending conversation online regarding Blanchard's ability to be a responsible and safe parent to her future child, considering her past violent relationship with her own mother. The presence of social media has definitely made this conversation much more widespread, and it has allowed people with many different opinions to weigh in on the topic. Many believe that, considering Blanchard was a victim of Munchausen by proxy (when a caretaker of a child either makes up or creates real symptoms to make it seem as though a healthy child is sick), that she has the right mind to care for a child, since the drama surrounding her prison sentence was in regards to her being abused by her mother. However, there are plenty of online voices who believe that Blanchard should not be allowed to care for a baby after all that has happened with her relationship with her own maternal figure.
